A 6 inch square glass bevel is the cover for this truly different bookcelebrating women. The base material is painted canvas but materials ranging from chiffon, tulle, silk and natural wool contrast against hammered steel and rust. Cardstock pages form pockets for tucking in our faux vintage cabinet cards, letters and photos you will create. Working with transparencies and TAP transfer paper adds dimension to the pages. Easy to follow templates make this intricate binding system fail proof. A center fabric insert will be collaged with a monotone of textiles that highlight the beauty of light and texture. Swarovski crystal and pearls scattter through adding to the texture. A flag of fabric strips with transferred messages flow from the center page giving interest to what lies inside. Plenty of room for adding your own personal touches and trims. The front crystal is provided, but bring a long a rusty key or found object if you want to give it the added grunge. This "Beautiful Woman Book" is a tactile experience that will delight the senses as you peel through its layers. Beautiful images set in a warm white background, the coolness of the glass and the loft of the fabrics to the touch and the aroma of the lavender seed fill the air as the pages are turned. Skill Level: Intermediate. You will learn basic bookmaking, metal fabrication, transfers, stamping, trim and embellishment techniques.

Bring scissors, glue stick of\r adhesive of choice, 1/4" red liner tape, basic wire working tools: round nose pliers, chain nose pliers, flush cutter, Xacto knife, awl, and a coarse black acrylic nail file. $80.00

Copper Transfer Bracelet

Learn copper etching and image transfer. Link together 1 inch transformed copper square tiles and learn to embellish with charms and beads. Cold connection techniques of riveting, wire wrapping and jump rings will be taught. Several different themes will be available. Class comes with enough copper tiles to make up to 6 transfers and 3 etched tiles. Bring basic jewelry tools, round nose, chain nose, flush cutters and scissors. You can choose which bracelet you will do and Joni has added the steam punk bracelet.  regular bracelet is ($60); steam punk bracelet is ($63)

Language of Flowers

Immerse yourself in another era as you create a charming book based on the victorian language of flowers. Victorians consulted these popular books when giving flowers to someone to avoid miscommunication, and Kate Middleton is said to have used a book of flower meanings when selecting flowers for her wedding. The book you will make contains a colorful sampling of vintage flower illustrations and meanings. Book covers and cardstock pages, 0-wires for binding, images and flower meanings, and an instruction book will be provied in the class kit. Appropriate rubber stamps and ink pads, Prismacolor pencils, decorative papers, embellishments and dies and machine for cutting images will be available. Please bring the following items: ruler, bone folder, scissors, craft knife, cutting mat, pencil, stipple brush if you have one and several blue sticks (not hot glue sticks) or your favorite adhesive medium for adhering paper. Bring a sack lunch and converse with classmates in the language of flowers. ($55)

Solder 101 Donna Goss

In this class we will explore the basics of solder for those who have never attempted it. You will assemble collages for a necklace, and will receive additional glass for making more charms at your leisure. Once you learn this technique, you can make all kinds of things besides jewelry. Ornaments, wall art, boxes, your imagination will run wild with other gifts. Bring to class scissors, glue stick, small vice, bone folder, solder iron with 1/8" screwdriver type tip, safety glasses and jewelry pliers. ($65)

Saturday, March 31st, 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Bird Peeps Lisa Renner    This is a one day mixed media workshop where you will use your your creativity to make a whimsical little creature called a Bird Peep. Working with polymer clay, inks, paints, metal leafing, wire and other materials, you will build your Bird Peep, just bursting with sweetness! A rudimentary bird-shaped armature quickly takes flight when you add texture to polymer clay, which is further accented once color is added. Experiment with the application of alcohol inks on clay, enjoying their translucency, blend-ability and plethora of colors! They can be layered with other materials available to use in class to achieve a richly colored surface for your bird. The face will be made using your choice of molds from the teacher's personal collection. It can be left with a matte finish, or can be glazed for a glass-liked shine. Your Bird Peep is designed to stand on its own two legs and the finished size will be approximately 4 to 5 inches tall. Instructor will demo how to make a simple wire birdcage for you to make at home, or time permitting, in class. With the hand-formed heart that springs from its chest, you will find your Bird Peep simply irrestible! Please bring the following: 4 packes of white Premo Polymer clay (condition clay before class. After condition, roll each package into a sheet using the thickest setting of the machine and place in a plastic bag, each sheet separated by plastic wrap. Search for clay that is squeezable in the package - not too firm!) Chain nose and round nose plies, wire cutters, small hand drill with wooden handle (bring if you have one - I have one to share) Optional: 1 roll 19 gauge dark annealed steel wire (20 gause will also work) - This is for the bird cage - optional for class); gloves and apron. ($80)

Tim Holtz's Classes - Feb 12, 2012

We hope you are as excited about the following announcement as we are.

Tim Holtz has announced on his blog that he will be teaching at Stamp Asylum, April 21st and 22nd.

More details will be announced as we have description of classes, cost, times etc. Sign up will also be announced as well. We will give everyone plenty of time to study description of classes and decide what class or classes they will taking, and then a date and time when sign ups will start.

One thing we know is that because the group will be large, we will hold the classes at the Southfork Hotel on Central Expressway. More information on the hotel will also be coming your way. We have reserved a block of rooms at a special rate in case you are traveling or just want to make it
a get away weekend.
