Copper Book Necklace "Looking In"Joni Russell

This tiny 1 1/4" x 2 1/2" mini book starts off with a surprise cover that lets you see into the images that lie beneath. A window of Ice Resin slightly magnifies the image below. Pages are made from metal mesh, mica, distressed canvas, resin paper, and filmstrips. The kit comes packed with mini photos, paper trimmings and embellishments for you to fill the pages. A variety of attachment techniques will be shown including eyelets, staples, sewing and wire. Learn metal fabrication and texturing. Torching will be demonstrated. Your kit will also include several Artful Illusions mini rubber stamps - yours to keep. Chain will be available for purchase.
Skill Level: beginner to intermediate
You will learn metal fabrication, transfers, stamping, trim and embellishment techniques. Bring: scissors, glue stick or adhesive of choice, - suggested 1/4"red line tape. Basic wire working tools: round nose pliers, chain nose pliers, flush cutter, hole punches, 1/8" inch hole punch, Xacto knife, awl, coarse black acrylic nail. $60.00

Make 8 large tags to use as book pages, greeting cards, bookmarks or jewelry presentation cards. Each will be stamped and decorated with an assortment of vintage stile, ribbons, lace, buttons and trims. Samples of 20 plus tags will be shown. You can either replicate our examples or let them be the inspiration for your own creations. Additional trims and tags will be available for purchase if time allows for you to make more.
Skill level: Beginner.
Need to bring scissors, glue stick or adhesive of choice. $40.00

"The Beautiful Women Book"

A 6 inch square glass bevel is the cover for this truly different book celebrating women. The base material is painted canvas but materials ranging from chiffon, tulle, silk and natural wool contrast against hammered steel and rust. Cardstock pages form pockets for tucking in our faux vintage cabinet cards, letters and photos you will create. Working with transparencies and TAP transfer paper adds dimension to the pages. Easy to follow templates make this intricate binding system fail proof. A center fabric insert will be collaged with a monotone of textiles that highlight the beauty of light and texture. Swarovski crystal and pearls scattter through adding to the texture. A flag of fabric strips with transferred messages flow from the center page giving interest to what lies inside. Plenty of room for adding your own personal touches and trims. The front crystal is provided, but bring a long a rusty key or found object if you want to give it the added grunge. This "Beautiful Woman Book" is a tactile experience that will delight the senses as you peel through its layers. Beautiful images set in a warm white background, the coolness of the glass and the loft of the fabrics to the touch and the aroma of the lavender seed fill the air as the pages are turned. Everything Acetate

Let me introduce you to the wonderful world of printable acetate! Or maybe you have already been introduced and love it as much as I do. Either way come and have fun making 10 cards for different occasions. Use Window cards and Overlays,along with pictures printed on Multi-Purpose Acetate, to make stunning, yet easy cards! Black and White pictures look like negatives, but with the acetate they can be the size you want them to be. Whether you want the Black and White look or you want your pictures in color, you can personalize ANY card by using your own photos or finding awesome pictures on the internet. Learn how to get your pictures from your camera (or CD, or internet) onto your computer and then printed on acetate using and Ink Jet printer. Bring your favorite double sided tape scissors. ($35)

METALLIC CARDS, CARDS, CARDS AND LAYERS!

We will have plenty to do in this fast paced and fun class!! You will be given
the paper supplies and envelopes to make 8 cards using Metallic card stock, so your cards are ready to send to your friends (or keep for yourself because they are too good to give away)! We will be using ALL Metallic Cards and Layers. Not all Metallics are created equal, so some are better for stamping, others for embossing and others for direct to paper techniques - don't be afraid of working with metallics, learn which technique is best for different metallic stock. Learn which inks to use on different types of Metallics - there is one line in particular which stamps incredibly great with most inks! Work at your own speed - work fast to finish all of the cards or work leisurely and finish your favorites. This is a fun class to take with friends or make new friends as you stamp your heart out for 2 1/2 hours. Bring double sided tape and scissors. ($35)

Queen For a Day Crown

You will be Queen for the day when you make this cute little soldered crown. Great as a display piece of art for a special place in your home. We will be using 1" pieces of glass as the base and triangle glass for the peaks in the front of the crown. You do need to know how to solder for this class. Please bring to class solder iron with 1/8" or 3/16" tip, safety glasses, bone folder or phid, scissors, glue stick, sal ammoniac block, sponge, flat and round nose pliers, jewels for peaks (optional). Your jewels can be vintage jewelry, rhinestone buttons or anything you would like to add to the peaks of the crown for decorations. ($70)

Come and "Stack the Deck". We are going to be using handcarved stamps to make face cards. You will have the opportunity to make several and then pick your favorite to create a finished piece. We will cut apart, arrange and then reassemble in a small shadow box frame. Each will be unique as we each choose our own colors and collage material. When you leave you will have a framed and ready to hang piece of artwork to enjoy.

Please bring your basic kit and any epherma you may feel would be relative. All other supplies will be provided.

Collage a 11X14 canvas with stamps, papers, embossing powders, found objects, fibers and ribbons. Materials will be provided, but you are welcome to bring any special or found white or ivory colored element ie. button etc. to accent your work. Learn copper etching and image transfer. Link together 1 inch transformed copper square tiles and learn to embellish with charms and beads. Antique bottles make the base of our project. Use wax dipped lace, rusty screen, soldered bands, ribbons, keys, pins, trinkets, found objects and anything but the kitchen sink to decorate your piece. Other trim pieces will be available for sale, but you are welcome to bring your own lace bits, found objects and trinket to use on your bottle. Brayering 101

A brayer... this is the rubber paint roller looking thing you probably have had since you first started rubber stamping. Well, have you used it lately? Me not so much until I took a fantastic class recently on HOW to use it. Or I should say a NEW way to use it. In class you will learn how to apply ink to cardstock with the brayer to make scenes or backgrounds and turn them into four wonderful cards. Get tips on care of your brayer and several other techniques to use the brayer with. So come to class to re-learn how much fun this old tool can be. Mermaids, the mythical, beautiful, but sometimes perilous sirens of the seas, will be featured in a stunning starbook that you create using stamps, copies of mermaid images and embellishments. The basic book structure with 0-wires, covers, cardstock pages, mermaid images and text, and an instruction book will be provided in the class kit. I'll have rubber stamps for you to use and a selection of embellishmens such as tiny real shells, charms, and shapes punched or die cut from decorative papers. Prismacolor pencils will be available for you to use, but you may wish to bring your favority coloring medium. Copic 1
If you would like to find out why everyone loves the Copic markers, then this is the class for you. In this technique class you will learn how to choose the markers, inks and paper. You will learn how the markers work together and why does the blender marker acts like an erases? All supplies provided including 4 markers ( 3 color and the blender). Melody Winston ($50)

Fairy Gate Book
Learn to make a stacked gate book (one that opens in the middle and has different size and shaped pages)using black chipboard, wire coils and the Zutter bind it all system. Our book will have a Sweet Fairy theme using the Graphic 45 "once Upon a Springtime" papers. You will learn a variety of techniques and attachments as you build your pages and fill them with ribbons, trims and decorate the page with Smooch and glitter pens. Joni Russell ($55.00)

The Magic of 3D

Friendly Plastic
The fun with Friendly Plastic continues. Besides the brightly colored sticks, Friendly Plastic also comes in white pellets. When warmed the resulting clear plastic can be manipulated different ways. We will color the pellets with inks and add-ins like glitter and they mold it. For our second project we will use the pellets and a printed image to create a cameo suitable for jewelry or scrapbooking. For our third project, we are going to ooze. Come find out what happens when you push warm Friendly plastic through a variety of materials. No previous experience required. If you have taken the Friendly Plastic class I and II classes, please bring your tools All other supplies will be provided. Shari Wallace ($45.00)

Vintage Inspired Jewelry

Using Tim Holtz products from his Ideology Line you will create a vintage looking necklace and cuff bracelet. His baubles, keys, chains and trims are wonderful added to rhinestones and felt for an old world look. Bring to class a bottle of Fabri-Tac, scissors, xacto knife, cutting board, jewelry pliers (2 pair for opening jump rings) and wire cutters. Donna Goss ($35.00)

Copic and Hero Art Stamps
In this class we will make cards using Hero Arts rubber stamps and copic markers. Bring basic tool kit and copic markers. All other supplies provided. This is not a technique class. Melody Winston ($25.00)

Organic Polymer Clay Beads

In this workshop we will use polymer clay, metal leaf, inks, Pearl Ex, and other materials to create stunningly beautiful beads in various shapes and sizes. You will learn a simple technique for creating organic-looking Mokume Gane, that when slices of it are applied to the beads, lends a translucent layered effect simulating exotic and colorful stones. Lisa Renner ($80.00)

In addition, a second technique will be taught for creating gorgeous beads with such mystery, luminosity and vibrant color it will take your breath away!

You will be instructed on how to plan and structure your design, both of which are integral to an organic look. Proper sanding and polishing of your beads will be discussed, however is optional for this project.

Since this is a technique-based class, the beads you make may be used in future projects, such as for stringing into a necklace, making earrings, or even embellishments for books, dolls, etc. Or if you are taking the “Organically Wired” Beaded Cuff Bracelet workshop, you may create your beads with that in mind, forming gentle rock-like shapes and choosing your favorite to use as a focal bead for your bracelet.

Bring to class: Premo Translucent Polymer Clay - 2 or 3 packages: (Bring only PREMO brand clay. It is highly translucent and the most predictable for this technique. Some of the other brands will not produce the desired results.) Try to find clay that is slightly squeezable - not too hard. Do not condition the clay before class- bring it in its packaging. Premo White Polymer Clay - 2 or 3 packages (Either conditioned or unconditioned is fine) Premo Pearl Polymer Clay - 1 package (Unconditioned), Polymer clay slicing blade, Smooth work surface such as a 6” or 8” square smooth ceramic tile, or piece of glass (An 8 x 10 piece of glass with taped edges works well- take from a discarded picture frame if you have one laying around and go around the edges with masking tape to prevent cuts.) Acrylic clay roller (This is a clear, acrylic rod used to roll out the clay.)
Metal Knitting Needle (Any size is ok but a #3.75 size is good for this project.)
Optional Items: Pasta Machine (I will have a few to share but bringing your own is advisable.)
Pearl Ex, in colors you like. A small box to take home any unbaked beads should time be a factor
All other materials supplied by instructor.

Organically Wired
This class partners well with the Organic Polymer Clay Bead workshop, but each may be taken independent of the other.

In this class you will use wire to make a beautiful, organically-shaped cuff bracelet, “jeweled” with a larger focal bead and accented by a plethora of smaller beads.

The first part of class will be spent working with wire to fabricate the bracelet frame: bending, hammering, and ultimately shaping it to fit your wrist. There will be two gauges (14 and 16) and three types of wire to choose from: Nickel Silver, Brass and Rebar (for a very rustic look).

The second part of class will be spent arranging, designing, and stringing various beads onto the cuff to compliment a focal bead. If you took the previous day’s workshop in which we made focal beads from polymer clay, you may use one of those. Otherwise you can bring your own focal bead from home.

The bracelet can also be made without a focal bead should you desire.

Either way, your finished bracelet will be a tapestry of textures and color, and one you’ll find to be very wearable- Join us!

Bring to class: A Focal Bead: A good range of size could be anywhere from about 1” to 2” in length, and a width of 1” to 1 ½ ”, depending on your personal taste. You may either use one made in the “Organic Polymer Clay Bead” workshop, or bring one from home. If bringing one from home, the bead should be of a fairly flat design (as opposed to a spherical shape), so that when it is strung on the cuff it will fit nicely up against your wrist. The bead needs a hole that will accommodate 24 gauge wire. There will be some polymer clay focal beads for sale in class for around $12.00 each. (Let instructor know in advance if you are interested in purchasing a bead so an appropriate quantity is available.)

A selection of smaller beads: Think colorful crystals; pearls; seed beads in various sizes and shapes- round, tubular, triangular, and square; glass beads; metal beads, or others you would like to go on your bracelet. Factor in the elements of COLOR and TEXTURE, along with your personal palate, choosing beads to accent and compliment your focal bead. Make sure the holes in the beads will accommodate 24 gauge wire. (There will be some small beads to choose from in class, but by using beads you bring from home in the variety and color range you like, you are able to customize your bracelet in your personal palate so it may be thoroughly enjoyed.) Jewelry pliers- round nose and chain nose, Wire cutters, Hammer (A chasing hammer-Available at Rio Grande www.riogrande.com, or www.thejewelrytoolshop.com. Or a standard ball peen hammer will be fine for this project- available at Home Depot) Anvil, or steel block - This will be used when hammering the wire. (I will have a couple to share but if you want to purchase one, they are available at www.riogrande.com, or www.thejewelrytoolshop.com. It is an indispensable item if you plan to work more with wire.) Ear plugs (Optional! If your ears are sensitive, I suggest you bring these to help muffle the noise while hammering the wire.) In this class we will use new product from the Tim Holtz line of Advantus Resist paper; Sizzix

Vagabond Journey
Pack up your Vagabond, bring it to Stamp Asylum, and let it have a fun workout. All you have to do is assemble various sandwiches to run through the Vagabond and press a button - the Vagabond will take from there. We will emboss with folders, texture plates, brass stencils and more; we will cut dies from several companies. You will work from a recipe box well-stocked with varieties of card stock, metallic paper, metal and more. You will receive an instruction book with the sandwich recipes and 2 types of shims. Please bring Tan Wizard Embossing Mat. If you have Cuttlebug plates please bring 2 B plates and 1 C plate. Anne Sagor ($50)

This class is designed for those who love the process of artistic book-making, while learning some techniques that allows you the freedom to explore the joy of working with color, paper and wax.

In this all day workshop you will make an artist book with wax-collage covers. With its fabric spine and crisp blank pages, it makes a perfect book to take to all your workshops for recording your class notes, gluing samples, memos, photos etc., or to use as your personal sketchbook or journal.

The first part of class will be devoted to creating collage renderings to be used for the book covers. You will dye your own papers in class and depending on your color palate, your covers can be painterly and abstract, or collaged with a focal image - you're in charge. You will then take it to the next level using wax, metallic powders and other materials to make a rich and artsy statement for your book covers.

The second part of class will be devoted to book construction. It will be built from ground-level up, yet in a simple format. Signatures comprised of text-weight paper and Bristol cover stock (great weight for mixed media) will be sewn into the spine using an easy stitch.

If you enjoy a lively, fast paced workshop tat is technique-based and results in a completed project, please join me for this very creative process!

COPPER HEART NECKLACE
Start with some copper and silver sheets and wire; and finish with a one of a kind heart necklace. Learn to cut, file, shape and wire wrap, rivet, letter stamp and make a closure. You don't need any experience or knowledge of metals to make this project, but you will leave comfortable with your abilities. Bring round nose and chain nose pliers and flush cutters. We will have them available for purchase if you don't already have a set. ($35.00)

COPPER TILE BRACELET
Cut, file, and form copper tiles and apply image transfers. Combine with etched copper squares and connect with chunky jump rings. Finish out your bracelet with a doomed penny and wire wrap attaching charms and beads. If time allows, copper etching will be demonstrated. Bring scissors, round nose pliers and chain nose pliers (2 pair if you have them), flush cutters. If you do not have these tools, we will have them for sale. This is a beginner level class. ($40.00)

In the beginner's class you will learn all about Copic Markers. We will work on how to choose your markers, blending techniques, papers and more. This is a technique class. In this class we will explore the basics of solder for those who have never attempted it. You will assemble collages for a necklace, and will receive additional glass for making more charms at your leisure. Once you learn this technique, you can make all kinds of things besides jewelry. LETS GET FRIENDLY! - INTRODUCTION TO FRIENDLY PLASTIC - Shari Wallace

This is a beginner level technique class in the art of Friendly Plastic. This fun material has been around for years and it is a very versatile medium. In this class, we will learn how to inlay or fuse pieces together. Create the look of faux diachronic glass! For a second project, we will use a comb to marble several colors of Friendly Plastic together. We will also use alcohol inks to create a beautiful mottled effect on the plastic. Using shape cutters, we will finish our pieces so that you can use them for jewelry, card making, or scrap booking projects. All supplies provided. ($40.00)

FRIENDLY PLASTIC 2 - Shari Wallace

Using the techniques we learned in the first class, we will stamp into the Friendly Plastic. You can use rubber stamps, texture plates or just about any found object to make an impression. We will also learn the exciting Fracture and Fusion Technique. The end result is a one of a kind piece which you can use to make jewelry or in other projects. Nothing goes to waste when you are using Friendly Plastic. We will use out scrap pieces to create a beautiful bezel inlay pendant. ($40.00)

FALL FLAT BRUSH FLORALS - Donna Sabolovic

Learning manipulations with the flat brush to master various strokes that can be put together to create beautiful forms as well as other decorative shapes. These creations can add delightful touches to your calligraphy, used alone as beautiful paintings, embellishment for greeting cards, scrapbooks or journals. The subject of this series of classes is the fall flowers and Christmas accents. At the end of the class sessions, we will make greeting cards from our practice flowers and accents. Beginners as well as advanced students are encouraged to take the class. All supplies needed for the class will be proved. Tim Holtz Is Coming

Tim Holtz will be back to teach for Stamp Asylum sometime in the latter part of August. At this point we do not know what classes he will be teaching or the times.

In a future email, the exact dates, times, descriptions of classes and date to sign up will be posted. So if you are not on our email list get on it! Email Monica at nun3808@att.net to request to be added to it. Or next time you are in the store, sign up on the clipboard by the door.

The process will be the same as in the past. After the descriptions and dates are published, everyone will have at least three days to read over the descriptions and make arrangements. A date and time will be given when signing up for the classes will begin. Payment will be required at that time. We will also need a phone number and email in case we need to give you more information. If for some reason, you have to drop out, refunds will be given if there is someone on the waiting list for the class.

COPPERPLATE CALLIGRAPHY - DONNA SABOLOVIC
Copperplate is a script type of lettering created by writing in a flowing hand with a pen. This is a beginners class where the techniques to create the thick and thin lines is learned. This hand is elegant and beautiful with a free slowing style. Copperplate was widely used commercially during the eighteenth century. It gets its name from copper engravings that the writing masters used to reproduce copybooks that students would use to learn penmanship. Today this lettering style is used in formal invitations, elegant paragraphs, poems, journals, greeting cards and scrapbooks. All supplies provided. $100

ON THE BOARDWALK VACATION ALBUM - DONNA GOSS
Get a head start on your Summer vacation album. In this class you will create a beach theme album using the vintage Boardwalk papers from Graphic 45. BITTEN BY THE BUG - CUTTLEBUG 101 - ANNE SAGOR
Congratulations on being the proud owner of a Cuttlebug! In this class, you will learn exciting and beautiful embossing techniques including how to emboss cardstock with chipboard shapes; Grungeboard shapes; and a variety of cardstocks and papers to emboss. You will learn how to use Sizzix and Nestabilities dies in your Bug, how to cut frames with Nesties and how to make your own embossing folders and stamps with dies. Sandwich recipes for the above projects will be provided in an instruction book that goes home with you. Please bring the following items to class: Cuttlebug with all the plates which includes 1 A plate, 2 B plates and 1 C plate. POINTED BRUSH LETTERING - DONNA SABOLOVIC
Learning the strokes that apply to pointed brush will be the first focus in the class. We will spend some time on these unique steps to warm up the hand and get us familiar with the strokes used to create letters. The next step is applying these strokes. The last part of the class we will focus on writing on different papers. This way we can see the quantity different papers require from the writing fluid, the technique in writing and the amount of liquid to obtain the results we want. You will need a Niji waterbrush medium size, Pentel Color Brush (your choice but not metallic). Optional brushes: Silver Black Velvet #2, Windsor Newton Sable #2. Teacher will be bringing these brushes for you to try before you buy. $100

SPRITZ ME, BABY MO' BETTAH! - FRED MULLETT
Finding merit in the "less is more" concept and the power of imprecision, this class focuses on the soluble properties of marker and other water based media to achieve watery effect using rubber stamps. Bleaching our imagery on black paper, then re-introducing color with high contrast accents is also tackled to achieve startling effects. Some experience in stamping suggested. $55

ELEGANT MESS - FRED MULLETT
A veritable food fight of a class! Where the spontaneous meets the specific. Where the positive meets the negative. And where leftovers go to play. We will fiddle around with principles of figure/ground relationship as we integrate Ranger Color Wash Dies, collage, stencils and stamps of Oriental and watercolor paper with remarkable results. RING CREATION IN METAL CLAY - DEANNA COCHRAN

In this class you will learn to make two styles of silver metal clay rings. You will learn the process for a spiral and cuff style rings. Students are encouraged to bring stamps and items to make textures for their rings. You can bring texture plates, stamps, lace, decorative buttons or items from nature. Instructor will have items for use during class. Bring the student kit given in the first class and a snack since there will be no break for lunch. $90

Think soft beautiful organza flowers with artwork behind glass for the centers. These flowers look great on a jacket, purse, Spring hat or box. Copper Tile Bracelet
Cut, file and form copper tiles and apply image transfers. Combine with etched copper squares and connect with chunky jump rings. Finish out your bracelet with a doomed penny and wire wrap attaching charms and beads. If time allows, copper etching will be demonstrated.

Fashionista Book
This chubby little book is 31/2" X 3 1/2" X 51/2" tall. It may be small in size, but it is 36 pages, stamped and packed with cut outs, charms, envelopes, tags, etc.. Learn to make this simple book cover using black chipboard and book cloth. Each signature of pages will be tied with lush ribbons pf rayon and duponi silk. Charms will include the "Vintaj" closure and a red quartz dangle. We will share our tips for attaching trims for a finely finished book. Bring: scissors, 1/8" hole punch, glue stick, red liner tape (or similar adhesive). We will be using a Japanese Hole punch and will have several for classroom use, but if you have your own with your name marked on it, please bring it so you will not have to share. We are creating a puppet collage with paint and pattern papers. You will need to think human form and join the body pieces together with joints and spaces. You will leave with a finished masterpiece. The Ruling Pen - THIS IS A FOUR WEEK SESSION CLASS

The ruling pen is a tool with two metal leaves that can be manipulated to create various widths. It can be turned on it's side to make thick and thin lines and lower and upper case alphabets. In this class we will learn how to manipulate the tool and work on various alphabets and how to create interesting and different looks for several calligraphy hands. We will also see the variety of looks that this tool can make by writing on different types of paper. A small book will be made as a sample of of the lettering styles, inks and papers used in the class. Bring a ruling pen and ink of your choice. All other supplies will be provided.

Oh Happy Day Master Sheet Class

In this class you will create six cards and a tote for holding the cards. From one sheet of stamped cardstock, you will have the components to use on the cards and tote. NOTES FROM MONICA
In this class schedule we have attempted to give you a huge variety of classes. You see in the roster of classes new teachers as well. Stamp Asylum is richly blessed with wonderful people and lots of local talent We have technique classes, calligraphy, metal clay, soldering, and books. The plan is to give you ideas to prepare your gifts ahead of time.

The one thing that I have not been able to schedule is our early Christmas Party. I will have to schedule this fun party as soon as I get the announcement that stamp companies are ready with their new stamps.

The plans for classes for 2010 are already in progress. As you know the Mesquite convention is probably going to be January 16th and 17th. We are working with Ted who owns Stampers’s Annonymous, Inky Antics and other companies to be at Stamp Asylum Wednesday and Thursday before the convention with their inventory of stamps and maybe teach a couple of classes. More details will be forthcoming.

Sisterhood of the Reliquary with Lynne Perrella and Lisa Renner will be a two day workshop March 5th and 6th. There is one project for this workshop. Lynne will start the project on Saturday and Lisa will finish it on Sunday. This workshop is going to be limited to 20 participants and we will have it at another location due to the large room needed for the project.

ILLUMINATED LETTERS – DONNA SABOLOVIC
The early manuscripts contain beautiful decorated letters as accents or focal points on a page of lettering. This class teaches the technique used in creating gold debossed decorated letters. Using watercolor, gouache and gold ink, individual letters are painted, burnished and decorated to create magnificent sparkling accents. These letters are beautiful standing alone or as the starting point of a calligraphic work. In modern day

BLACKLETTER aka: OLD ENGLISH OR GOTHIC CALLIGRAPHY – DONNA SABOLOVIC
Blackletter is a full bodied style of lettering. Heavy rich letters form a glorious woven pattern of black and white strokes. Created in the Middle ages, scribes used this hand very successfully with the Illuminated Letter to achieve a complete “picture” page. The angularity of line and compression of letters allowed the scribes to consider “the word”, not the letter, as the goal of a fine design. Today calligraphers like the overall look of a page of Gothic lettering for the same reason, an overall texture of design. Individually wiring a name or title with this hand creates a very strong impression. Used as bookmarks, titles or a page of writing, artists can add these letters to their individual cards, scrapbooks or journals. As a beginning class, we will be learning the basic steps to create this style of lettering. THIS IS A FOUR WEEK SESSION CLASS. All supplies provided. (100).

CREATIVE TWIST ON CARDS – DONNA GOSS
If you love to make cards then this class is for you! You will make six different cards that can be used for any occasion. You may learn a new technique or find a long lost one you forgot about. All supplies provided. ($55)

SOLDER 101 – DONNA GOSS
In this class we will explore the basics of solder for those who have never attempted it. You will assemble collages for pins, pendants and a necklace. Once you learn this technique, you can make ornaments, wall art, and boxes. Your imagination will run wild with other gift ideas. Bring to class scissors, glue stick, small vice, bone folder, solder iron with 1/8” screwdriver type tip, safety glasses and jewelry pliers. ($65)

LITTLE GLASS HOUSE – DONNA GOSS
This the sweetest solder project we have done yet! In this class you will create artwork using paint and inks, copied images, computer generated words, rubber stamps and charcoal pencil. Sandwich the artwork between glass then solder the house together. Polished to perfection and illuminate using battery operated tea lights. You will have a whimsical showpiece! THIS IS NOT A BEGINNER SOLDERING CLAS. YOU NEEED TO ALREADY KNOW HOW TO SOLDER. Bring to class a good solder iron with a small tip ( ¼” – ½” screwdriver type tip), safety glasses, glue stick, detail scissors, Walnut Stain Distress pad, old thick towel, small vise, phid or bone folder, tweezers, pencil and three metal bench blocks or something heavy enough (very important) to hold the glass in position for soldering the house together. Congratulations on being the proud owner of a Cuttlebug! In this class, you will learn exciting and beautiful embossing techniques including how to emboss cardstock with chipboard shapes; Grungeboard shapes; and a variety of cardstocks and papers to emboss. You will learn how use Sizzix and Nestabilities dies with your Bug, how to cut frames with Nesties and how to make your own embossing folders and stamps with dies. Sandwich recipes for the above projects will be provided in an instruction book that goes home with you. Please bring the following items to class: Cuttlebug with all the plates which includes 1 A plate, 2 B plates and 1 C plate. A wizard tan embossing mat; any A2 embossing folders and dies you may own; and a brayer. METAL CLAY BASICS – DEANA COCHRAN
Experience the adventure that is Metal Clay. This class will cover the basics of Metal clay including an introduction to the various types of metal clay and their uses. Students will have the opportunity to create, fire and finish a Silver clay pendant necklace and pair of earrings that will be ready to take home at the end of the class. This class will cover a variety of techniques on making impressions to create jewelry from stamps, found objects (such as buttons and fabric), to items in nature to create truly unique wearable art. All supplies included. The tool kit used in this project will be yours at the end of class. Participants may bring personal stamps or found objects as desired to make impressions in their pieces. Recommend impressions and objects less than 1” in diameter provide best results. ($90)

BIRDCAGE GIRL – DONNA JOY
In this workshop you will create a piece of wall art using a variety of paints and papers while learning a technique to add texture to your backgrounds – not only in this piece but in other you create later. Once the texture is complete, you will add imagery, draw your cage, accent it with charcoal and seal for a finished 12” x 7” piece ready to hand. To create a similar palette as the sample, you will need dabbers in the following colors: Aqua, Citrus, Cool Peri and Juniper. Optional: Pool, Lake and Pink Sherbet dabbers.
If you have a different palette preference, bring the dabbers for your palette. Also bring your tool kit that includes paint brushes to paint and to glue. ($45)

WHIMSICAL CHRISTMAS CARDS – DONNA GOSS
Need a head start on your Christmas cards this season? Or you can’t think of an idea to even get you started? Then this class is for you! You will make six different cards incorporating various techniques and some of the new stamp designs and papers. Come and enjoy some holiday music and treats with your friends in this festive class. PASTELS AND CHALKS – MELODY WINSTON
In this technique class you will learn all about chalks. There are oil pastels, soft pastels, and craft chalks and using all of these, you will make papers that can be used for other projects. ($25)

There are many ways to marble paper and in this class you will learn a variety of marbling techniques using all kinds of materials. Bring tool kit and come have fun in this techniques class. All supplies are provided. ( $25)

PASTE PAPER – MELODY WINSTON
We will explore different ways to give your paper a unique look. Bring tool kit, wear clothes that you do not mind getting dirty and bring an apron. All supplies are provided. ($25)

COLLAGE PATTERN PAPER – DIANNE HICKS
Come and join us for a full day of printing. We will be making patterned papers with paint and stamps, creating a complexity of layers. Commercially produced papers cannot compare to the depth and variation you can achieve with this process. The paper is very thin so it is ideal for altered books, collage and scrapbooking. We will use stamps and paint plus other tools to create texture and designs. This is an all day class so bring a lunch and wear old clothes. The paper will be supplies, plush stamps and paint. If you have favorite colors of paints or stamps feel free to bring them. Bring a small roller to apply paint, several sponge brushes and a texture sea sponge. By the end of the day, you should have a stack of papers to work with in future projects. ($55)

ALTERED BOOK – DIANNE HICKS
This is a wonderful way to use an old book that can be found at garage sales or one you have on hand. We will be taking an old book and altering the cover with molding paste. The inside of the book will be replaced and new pages will be sewn back in. We will be doing a light wash on the pages and stamping on the first page of each signature. No two books will be alike. These make wonderful artists journals. Your kit will include the book, inside pages, and waxed linen thread. You will need to bring your basic tool kit, apron and a few bottles of paint for stamping if you want to work with a particular color; otherwise some paints will be available. This is an all day class, you may want to bring your lunch. ($55)

We hope you have seen all the new products that we are introducing at Stamp Asylum. We have all the new colors of alcohol inks, Tim Holtz' stamp collection and Tim's Ideaology embellishments; new stamps from Magenta; Wendy Vecchi , Teresa Collins and many others.

Soon to arrive are Impression Obsession new stamps that are great to color in many different ways. Flower-soft will be another fun new product that will give you one more way to color these stamps and many others that are in your collection.

We are exceedingly lucky to have great teachers at Stamp Asylum who have prepared lots of classes from Calligraphy to Soldering. It is also an extremely happy occasion to have visiting artists like Tim Holtz to share with us the perspective of the artist who also develops his own inks, embellishments and tools.

A DIFFERENT KIND OF CARD CLASS – DONNA GOSS
Making a card is fun, but how about making a movable one? Spinners and pull cards are interactive elements that take cards to the next level. We will make three different cards in class incorporating these type of projects. Whoever receives one of these creations will be totally thrilled when pulled from its envelope. All supplies included. ($55)

LUXORIOUS GOUACHE – DONNA SABOLOVIC
Gouache is opaque watercolor used in many artistic venues. We will be exploring the use of gouache in calligraphy. Gouache allows the calligrapher a myriad of colors to use in writing. Gouache can be mixed to match the exact color that you need for whatever project you be working on. Mixing gouache color with the right amount of water and sometimes other materials to produce the effect we want is one of our goals. Proper use of pen and gouache with the writing surface and loading the pen is another skill we will learn. This class will open many new possibilities to the beginning as well as seasoned calligrapher. You must have had a calligraphy class or are familiar with the pointed pen and/or broad edge pens. We will not be teaching calligraphy hand in this class. Bring your favorite broad edge or pointed pens and staff if you have any. All other supplies will be provided. ($100)

COPPERPLATE CALLIGRAPHY – DONNA SABOLOVIC
Copperplate is a script type of lettering created by writing in a flowing hand with a pointed pen. This is a beginning class where the techniques to create the thick and thin lines will be learned. This hand is elegant and beautiful with a free flowing style. Copperplate was widely used commercially in the eighteenth century. It gets its name from copperplate engravings that the writing masters used to reproduce copybooks for students to learn penmanship. Today this lettering is used in formal invitations, elegant paragraphs, poems, journals, greeting cards and scrap books. All supplies will be provided. ($95)

QUIRKY PEOPLE COLLAGE CLASS – DIANNE HICKS
The human form is a recognizable shape that reads with little information. Our quirky little people will be constructed with collage and stamped images on 5” x 7” watercolor paper. It is surprising how simple the human shape can be. We will be using patterned paper and ephemera to create your piece. Your kit will include mats so when you leave you have a piece of art that is ready for framing. You will need to bring your basic kit, gel medium and ephemera. You could also bring any of your stamps you may want to use if you have a favorite. ($60)

MARIE ANTOINETTE’S JOURNAL – ANNE SAGOR
Create a beautiful book about an icon, Marie Antoinette. We’ll write her journal for her and make an art book in the process in the pages of an unusual book structure with 2 accordion pages that sandwich regular pages between them. Write or print as much or as little of the text as you wish. Marie’s handwriting was far from beautiful; that emboldened me to print the sample book. Age and decorate the pages with inks or chalks, rubber stamps, embellishments and picture of Marie Antoinette and others. On the reverse of one of the pull-out accordion pages are portraits of Marie Antoinette from adolescence to maturity. The reverse of the second pull-out features French fashions from her day. The text is based on 4 biographies of Marie Antoinette. This will be an all day class. Bring a sack lunch. Please pick up a supply list when you sign up for the class. ($75)

MIXED MEDIA AND WAX ASSEMBLAGE – LISA RENNER
The goal of this workshop is two-fold: first, to provide information and instruction for students to create a piece of wall art using mediums and materials such as wood, metal, wax, paper, and polymer clay. Second, the student will have the opportunity to sample versatile techniques that can be applied to future mixed media art in numerous capacities. In the course of this all day workshop, you will learn “encaustic collage” involving the use of beeswax and other materials, and apply this to a wood substrate, the basis of your class project. You will also learn texturing options using lightweight metal to further accent your design. Polymer clay will be used as the focal point of your
piece and you will be able to choose from a variety of face molds, or texture stamps to find what speaks to you. You will learn a very easy method of applying color to the clay that results in something uniquely differerent every time! Not only will you end up with a piece of original art, the techniques learned in this workshop can be applied to your future missed media art including bookmaking, boxes and cards. ALL DAY WORKSHOP. Your fee includes kit materials, detailed hand out, pre-sanding of wood and the use of all tools and other materials needed for the project. Bring to class 1 or 2 packages of white Premo polymer clay, hammer, heat gun (if you have one), sack lunch (a short lunch break will be taken). ($95)

ATC CLASS – DIANNE HICKS
ATC’s are a great way for Artist to share among themselves on a small format. We will be making ATC’s in this fast paced class that 2.5” x 3.5” in a variety of formats. We will use masking tape, inks and India ink and create one that folds. There will be ephemera and cards but bring anything you would like to build on the supplies available. You will need your basic kit which includes a glue stick, good scissors and ephemera. Hopefully everyone will want to trade but you can make some ATC’s in advance to trade. Teacher will have one of her ATC's for everyone. ($40)

One of the beautiful manuscript hands used between the third and eighth centuries. A classic hand that has found much favor in modern day use. Uncial combines the capitals and lower case together to form one dramatic alphabet. The thickness and roundness of the alphabet create letters that are wonderful for use in scrapbooks, cards or journals. GLASS ETCHING 10:00am - 12:00pm
Is your Cricut or other die cutting machine collecting dust? This class is for everyone who needs an easy, fun way to create gifts for everyone on your list. By cutting sheet vinyl and using etching cream, we can make some fantastic etchings that look like you spent all day but actually finished in less than half and hour! Bring your die cutting machine and two clear {not frosted} glass pieces to etch. These can be as simple as a picture frame with a glass in it, or a wine glass, beer steins, glass plates. Avoid globe shapes and blown glass.

Do you have a die cutting machine that you are using to its full potential? these machines are great for not only scrapbookers, but card makers alike. Inkscape is an open source program used to create files that can be cut using Sure Cuts Alot on the Cricut or Craft Robo, Wishblade or Silhouette. It can be used with dingbats to make connected titles with mats, borders, overlays and any type of die cut necessary for your cardmaking or scrapbooking or more. Bring your die cutting machine.

New Banner

We added a new banner to the top and we have to give credit where it's due...the tags were made using Tim Holtz's Distress Inks and one of his stamps from Stampers Anonymous. If you have never tried the technique used on the tags please come by the store and we will give you a demo. It's a fun and easy one to do. Lots of texture but smooth to stamp on.

FUN CAPS – DONNA SABOLOVIC
Letters painted with a flat brush and then enhanced with micron markers and iridescent watercolors make sparkling words for additions to your scrapbooks, cards, journals or everyday writing. The letters are based on the Neuland calligraphy hand but knowledge of calligraphy is not needed to take this class. Also hand drawn capitals in a very free form style. Add color with paint or pencil and a border and WAHLAG! A masterpiece is created. Supplies needed: ½ inch and/or ¼ inch flat brush, #2 pointed brush; set of watercolors paints (Prang pan set is fine), pencil, ruler, a permanent fine point marker (micron, millennium or your personal favorite). Optional: watercolor pencils, iridescent watercolors. ($90).

DANCING RUBBER FISH

Expanding the methods of multi-color printing with multi-color embossing and watercolor additions, this class is geared toward the experienced student, though could be considered a "sink or swim" lesson for beginners. (There will also be a short demonstration on how to make colored transparent powders using alcohol inks.) Bring tool kit. Optional: if you want to bring some favorite medium to big stamps and embossing powders. Otherwise all materials will be provided. ($55)

AUGUST 24th 3:30pm - 7:00pm

SPRITZ ME, BABY...MO' BETTAH!

Finding merit in the "less is more" concept and the power of imprecision, this class focuses on the soluble properties of markers and other water-based media to achieve watercolor effect using rubber stamps. Bleaching out imagery on black paper, then reintroducing color with high contrast accents is also tackled to achieve startling effects. Bring tool kit, apron, and broad-tipped water-based markers (light, medium and dark). Optional: if you want to try some of your favorite medium to large stamps. you will be using Clorox and if wish, bring gloves and eye protection. ($55)
